riddet institute

The Riddet Institute is a Centre of Research Excellence (CoRE), one of ten currently funded by the New Zealand government (Tertiary Education Commission). It brings together New Zealand’s leading scientists in food and nutrition in a collaborative, multidisciplinary national network. The Riddet Institute CoRE is a partnership between Massey University (host institution), the University of Otago, the University of Auckland, AgResearch and Plant & Food Research.

The Institute unites leading scientists and key elements of New Zealand’s resources in food and related sciences and is a catalyst for innovation to create sustained competitive advantage for New Zealand. New Zealand’s food industry is the country’s most significant economic sector, accounting for over half of export earnings. The Riddet Institute’s prime goal is to fortify the New Zealand food industry with true scientific excellence.

Strategic priorities include:

– World-class fundamental and strategic research.

– Developing human capital (tomorrow’s leaders).

– Transferring new knowledge and technologies.

– Partnering with industry to identify, capture and develop intellectual property.

– Exceptional international academic and industrial networks.

The Institute is governed by a Board and led by two Co-directors, Distinguished Professors Paul Moughan and Harjinder Singh. The Co-directors are supported by an executive Institute Management Group and by the Research Leadership Group made up of the CoRE Principal Investigators. The research programme is regularly reviewed by a Scientific Advisory Panel made up of international experts, to ensure science excellence is maintained.

Scientific staff are located at the Institute headquarters on Massey University’s Manawatu campus, Palmerston North, and in Partner institutions both within New Zealand and overseas.
